With millions of blogs scattered all over the internet – standing out can be difficult. While you might think that you need to pay for some specialist SEO firms to help promote your blog, this isn’t always necessarily. Whether you’re just starting out in the blogging world or if you need some new ideas to help take your existing site to the next level – some of these tips could be for you.
We’re going to look at how you can make some changes to both your site’s design AND the way you promote it – to try and stand out from the crowd. Without spending too much money.
Many blog owners treat social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook as afterthoughts. Some ignore them altogether. This is a huge mistake. Social media is a fantastic marketing tool that helps people promote your site for free.
Make sure you engage with your followers and treat them with respect. You could even offer them exclusive offers or content. Building a strong social media profile is a great way to grow brand loyalty. If you give your followers content they appreciate it – they’ll be more likely to share it with their friends, increasing your audience even more.
Make sure you’ve got some simple social media buttons on all your posts, so they can be easily shared. Sharing helps your following grow and could give your business the boost it needs.
Syndicate your content
When you’ve written your post – don’t just leave it on your site. No matter how good your posts are – if nobody knows about them, what use will they be?
There are a number of content syndication networks that will help promote your posts to new people. This is good for your site as it’ll grow your audience and help bring in new visitors.
Syndicated content will include a link back to where it was originally published (your site) so anyone who likes it will be able to find more of the same.
Make sure you write great content
Too many sites take their visitors for granted and provide poorly written, spammy posts that don’t really add anything. This is how you lose potential return visitors.
Make sure you write compelling, interesting blog posts about things people want to know about. Try and say some unique or at least informative. Having great content is probably one of the cornerstones of building a successful blog. The better your content is, the more people will share it – doing the marketing for you.
Here are a few tips for creating great content:
- Use catchy, enticing headings without offering something you can’t deliver.
- Use bullet points.
- Write shorter paragraphs that are easy to scan.
- Use images to add color to your posts.
- Offer real insight and opinion – try and give visitors something they can’t find elsewhere.
Use a good template
So many WordPress templates are over-used. A lot of them will make your site look like a spam hub even if your content is great. You don’t necessarily have to pay for an expensive one, but you need to do your research and find something unique.
How’s your blog going to stand out from the crowd if it uses one of those common templates? You need to find one that looks fresh and different and isn’t like all those other blogs in your niche.
Offer your visitors something unique
If you can offer contests or competitions, you could be onto a winner. Special offers or promo codes for relevant products could also help set you apart from the crowd. Try and think outside the box and offer your visitors something different. Not just great content – but great content AND more.
Make sure you treat SEO as a priority
There’s a reason why the SEO industry has become huge in recent years – search engines are the biggest source of visitors for the vast majority of websites. If you’re not treating it as a priority, you’re making a huge mistake.
For on-page SEO, install Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress and make sure you fill out all the SEO information for each new post. Try and target different keywords for different posts and make sure you have the right headings.
For off-page SEO – try and build links naturally. There are some Fiverr gigs that offer thousands of links for only $5 – but you need to be extremely careful with these. Some will simply spam your links in places you don’t really want them – and it could even lead to your site being unlisted on search engines.
Use the right images and graphics
No matter how good your content is – people don’t really want to be confronted with a wall of text. Try breaking things up with high-quality images and graphics. Offer people statistics in easy-to-view charts. You don’t have to pay a lot of money for your graphics – there are a number of free stock sites that’ll give you images that are good enough.
If you want to take things a step further, you can hire a designer to make a unique logo or compelling infographics. Sites like Fiverr are actually good for this sort of job.
